Nadine Spence
Nadine Spence sees clothing as an art form. When she was a little girl she created wearable art for her dolls. She continues to create to this day, only now it’s on a larger scale. Spence is passionate about her creations, her heritage and the earth. Her designs are strongly influenced by her upbringing in the culture of the Nlakapamux people (Thomson or Interior Salish).
A rebel at heart, Spence not only speaks out against what we have done to the earth, she does something about it. She calls her company RevEvo because it is a Revolution Of Evolution. Her creations rally against the complacency of how we view our clothing.
Spence’s designs focus on being eco-friendly. To her, it’s not about doing things quickly. She has gone back to the roots of all cultures to create stunning and original works that combine yesterday’s history with today’s sense of style. Spence puts a piece of herself into every item she designs and puts together. She chooses natural dyes for two reasons; one because they are ecofriendly and two, because she dyes the fabrics by hand so she knows exactly how the finished product will look.
As Spence asks “What would you prefer; some man-made dyes and synthetic fabrics next to your skin or all natural fabrics, with dyes that come from the earth.”
Spence is very family oriented and incorporates her father’s, brother’s and nephew’s artwork into her accessory line.
Roger Spence
Roger Spence was born in Yakima, WA and drew Viking Ships and Spanish Galleons in elementary school. In his early 20s he realized his elaborate doodles were Native Art. He believes in accessing the past through his artwork and has the ability to take nature and transform it into an abstract piece of art, while still maintaining the original subject matter. Spence’s artwork can be seen on some of the accessories created by his daughter, Nadine.
Hubert “Hub” Billy
Hubert, or Hub as he is affectionately called, has been drawing since grade two. When his sister Nadine also began to draw, the two started a life long friendly competition with art as the playing field. Hub combines the old style and the new world with vibrant primary colours. Hub’s mother is Coastal and his father is Thompson which is reflected in the intricacies of his work.
Since appearing on APTN TV with his sister in December of 2006, Hub has been selling his works throughout Canada and the United States. His work is incorporated into his sister’s designs in her accessory line.
Pete Spence
Nadine’s brother Pete, like his siblings before him, discovered his artistic talents at an early age. When he was younger he tried to draw like his father. Now he creates his own unique designs mixing tribal and traditional concepts. Pete is excited about contributing to his sister’s accessory line through his art. After all, he says “That’s what family is all about.”
Damon Spence
Nadine’s nephew, like his family members before him, has a great deal of talent, although he hasn’t developed a distinct style yet. At 13 years of age he likes to draw whatever comes to mind. Like those before him, he discovered his talents in elementary school. He loves the fact that his drawings will contribute to the creation of his auntie’s accessory line.
